If you are looking for a new career and you love traveling, truck driving might be for you! The industry is in desperate need of quality truck drivers, and because of that, some companies are offering great incentives! Here are five reasons why we think truck driving is a great career:

1. Truck Drivers are the Core of America’s Supply Chain.
It is an essential industry that is not going away any time soon. Think about it… Just about every industry in America has some level of dependency on the trucking industry, not to mention our own personal dependency in our everyday lives. The products we make, the food we eat, and our careers are all dependent on the trucking industry.

2. Job Security.
If you take your job seriously, you will be rewarded with a career that you can take to the bank. Truckers are in such demand today that you can almost choose the industry where you’d like to work. Automotive, technology, food and beverage, and even the entertainment industry are just some of the industries in need of truckers. The list is unending.

3. Great Salary with Great Benefits.
The average salary in 2018 was $43,680 per year, or $21 per hour. As of 2020, Glassdoor reports that the average base pay of a professional truck driver is just shy of $60K annually, and it is showing no signs of retreating.

Also, the industry is desperate to find reliable truck drivers. Sign-on bonuses with incredible benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and PTO/vacations are being added to the career package.

4. Opportunity.

When you feel it is time to move on or move up, there are opportunities to become an in-house driver trainer, or work your way up to transportation management and logistics. And don’t forget about lateral career moves. When you feel it might be time to put the rig driving aside, there will still be warehousing and customer service opportunities.

5. Travel and Adventure.
If you are someone that enjoys traveling or RVing, what better way to do it and to get paid at the same time? Long-haul truck drivers get to drive in plush cabs with sleepers and all the amenities that come with it while traveling across the country. You will get to visit new places and meet new people while providing an essential and professional service.

We think the trucking industry is a great career, and now more than ever, the country needs more truck drivers.
