We are seeing a lot of rate increases in the insurance market right now, and many of our clients want to know what they can do about it. Here are some options to consider if you are looking to lower your homeowner’s insurance premium.

  • Bundle your home and auto insurance.
Many carriers offer discounts when you package your home and auto insurance policies together. Using the same insurance carrier for both your home and auto insurance can help with discounts. A DSI agent is easily able to find the best policy that fits your needs.
  • Increase your deductibles
If you think you can afford a higher deductible in the case of a claim, increasing your deductible can help save you money on your monthly payments. If you aren’t sure what your deductible is, you can find it on the declaration page of your policy.
  • Review your coverages.
It’s always a smart idea to review your insurance coverages every year. Make sure you aren’t paying for coverage you don’t need. If you have a life-changing event such as getting married, it could lower your coverage. Talk to your DSI agent and let them know of any life-changing events or major purchases you have had, and they can help you.
  • Keep your agent informed on any updates to your home.
Some updates qualify for a reduction in premium. For instance, roofing updates often yield significant reductions in premiums, especially when they are supported by a wind mitigation report.
  • Get a wind mitigation inspection.
There could be a discount available for you depending on the features of your home that limit the damage that intense winds could cause. If your home was built before March 2002, and you have replaced your roof, you may not be getting the maximum wind mitigation credits for which you qualify. A wind mitigation inspection can save you $200 for up to five years. That’s $1,000 in savings!
  • These days, prices on everything seem to be increasing. If a DSI agent can help save you money on any of your policies, they will. Give them a call and see how you can save.
